We took a ride with modern day Renaissance woman Nicky Deam, who gave us a sneak peek into the world of The Zoe Report and beyond. We hung on every word as Nicky, one of our personal style icons, passed down solid insider tips on investing in quality, dressing to suit your personal style, and shared the trends currently catching her eye.
Name: Nicky Deam
Occupation: Editorial Manager at The Zoe Report
Style icon: Caroline de Maigret, I think she looks effortless and comfortable, always. Plus being a Frenchie doesn’t hurt!
One thing you never leave home without: YSL Touche Eclat and a good chapstick.
Favorite vacation destination: British Virgin Islands or Palm Springs.
Trends you’re loving right now: Mod boots, top handle bags, oversized knits.
Where do you find inspiration?: People watching (particularly when I’m traveling), films and magazines from the past, French Vogue editorials, and Interview because I love seeing non-models in the clothes.
Favorite piece of jewelry: A vintage ring from my Mum! But generally I’m a sucker for anything pavé, tasseled or bedecked with a hamsa (like my Sydney Evan bracelet).
What you’re listening to right now: Haerts’ “Wings” and Mac Demarco’s “Let Her Go”
Latest splurge: A Mark Cross bag, I think the clean lines are timeless and I love the minimal hardware.
Best jewelry/accessories advice: If you can’t walk in the shoes for goodness sake don’t wear them.
You’re exposed to the best of the best at The Zoe Report (we can only dream about the fashion closet). How do you decide which pieces to invest in each season?: I try to invest in accessories because you can’t fake quality when it comes to shoes and bags, and they add instant polish to any outfit. I also try to assess which trends actually suit my body and sense of style, there is no point trying something just because it’s a trend because you’ll be visibly uncomfortable. I’m a firm believer that confidence is the most important component of an outfit and if you feel ridiculous you will look ridiculous. Picking through the racks in our styling studio definitely helps narrow down the options, too! Not to mention mining the RZ Studio team for advice. If they don’t approve of something there is no way I’ll buy it! I also invest in one piece of jewelry that I can wear every day and with everything I own. I try to approach it in the same way I do finding a fragrance, it needs to be personal and unique.
